Bullying doesn’t “make kids tougher.” It’s not “a childhood rite of passage.”
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Begun by PACER’S National Bullying Prevention Center in 2006, it is a full month of activities, education, and awareness-building. PACER has partnered with multiple organizations and corporations, from NEA to Disney, to educate and issue a call to action for societal change.
Some beautiful poster-ready artwork for an anti-bullying initiative at your school can be found at https://www.stopbullying.gov/image-gallery/index.html. To help you out, Tonas Graphics has slashed prices on all photo media this month; contact Teri at 800-535-7553 for details.
One of the month’s key promotions is Unity Day on October 21 – wear orange; make an orange “When we stand together, no one stands alone” poster or banner for your students to sign and discuss. PACER’s website, www.pacer.org/bullying, is a wealth of ideas to bring this program and the anti-bullying message to your school. It provides resources for schools, parents, and students of all ages, and lists local and national anti-bullying events.
